Chapter Seven
Lisa Snow
Without another word, he walked out and left me with this seriously dodgy jerk.
I took a shallow breath. Iâd been taking shallow breaths up until the point that shield had been created then after the moment it had dissipated. And the shield⦠the shield was literally the only thing that could calm my mind as Glory Tarn suddenly took a close step up to me. âWe will transport now. It is an unrefined process. Iâm sure you have not experienced it before. It is new technology. Stay close. It will not be that scary, I promise.â
Iâd transported before â through a universal gate, at least.
But back then, Iâd had my own Guardian to keep me safe. I kept thinking that heâd soon jump back into the room. He didnât. Heâd just disappeared.
What the hell was he doing? Was there really some threat out there? No. I suddenly figured it out. There was no threat. He was after the battery for the gate opener. Presumably heâd get it, reach me wherever I was, and scoop me up and take me to the stations. Which resided in the multiversal fabric, I reminded myself.
That felt like a mule kick to my front brain. Every time I was certain that I was getting a hold of this situation, it reminded me of how wild it actually was.
Glory Tarn stood close. I could feel his eyes on me.
I didnât bother to slide my gaze over to him even as a transport beam manifested from above. It was this brilliant blazing pillar of light. It sliced into us. And it shook us apart.
I couldâve screamed. I didnât have the time.
In the blink of an eye, we arrived in the widest, largest and grandest room I had ever seen. I was an aficionado of palaces and museums. But nothing from my own planet came even remotely close to what I witnessed now. The ceiling was so high above me, it was more than 500 meters above. Massive domed arched windows stretched from the floor to the ceiling. And they let in the glittering beauty of the luminescent metropolis beyond.
The floor was carved out of some white stone. It wasnât marble. It shone with its own brilliance. Along the walls were portraits of historical people, one could presume. Except they were holographic portraits. They moved and interacted with folks who walked past â aliens of every color, size, and shape.
And, in the middle of it all, was me. A simple astrophysicist whoâd been swept out of her old boring life and dumped into something she would never understand, let alone keep up with.
Glory Tarn cleared his throat from my side. âYou did not scream. I thought that by now you would be shrieking in surprise. I know most people do during their first transportation session. You appear to be someone made of delightful contradictions.â
Crap. I had to stop marveling at the alien architecture and remember I was with this creepy alien.
I didnât know if he thought his act was working on me.
